About Motorcycle Safety Gear and Hit-Air airbag jackets and vests
The idea of using an air bag in motorcycle jacket has been around for many years. However, it was a gentleman by the name of Kenji Takeuchi who created the first commercially viable airbag jacket and vest product line. Mr. Takeuchi was very concerned about the high percentage of serious injuries to the head, neck and chest that often occur in motorcycle accidents. In fact more than 90% of injuries are in those three areas. A helmet may protect the head but an impact to a helmet may also cause an injury to the neck.
In 1995 Mr. Takeuchi began the development of protective gear for motorcyclists and applied for a utility model. After extensive research and development, a prototype vest with air bag was completed. |

By 1998 samples were shipped out. This early version of the Hit Air (called Eggparka air bag vest) earned Mr. Takeuchi the Bronze Medal at the equipment Convention of Tokyo Metropolitan Police (as protective wear for motorcycle police).
By 1999 commercial production of Eggparka Air Bag Vest (early version of Hit-air) began and dealers began sales of samples. Eggparka Air Bag Vest was reported world wide through TV, newspapers and magazines such as Popular Science and Newsweek. The Eggparka Air Bag Vest was awarded the Gold and Silver Medals at the World Exhibition of Inventions in Belgium, a Gold Medal in the Safety Promotion Life Saving Division and a Silver Medal Overall. The Eggparka air bag vest was also presented in motorcycle shows in France, Belgium and Brazil and was very well received.
In 2000 Mugen Denko, LTD was established to manage full scale production and export of the airbag jackets and vests. Mugen Denko, LTD contracted with SPIDI of Italy and IXS of Switzerland to supply the air bag system on an OEM basis. The Eggparka Air Bag Vest was awarded the Gold Trophy at “Salon du Cheval” in Paris for the equestrian type of air-bag vest.
In 2001 the Eggpaka Air Bag Vest was improved and replaced by Hit Air, a motorcycle jacket with a removable airbag system.
In 2003 the Japanese Police Department began using the Hit Air jackets for motorcycle police.
For more than a decade, Mugen Denko has established itself as the authority and world leader in airbag motorcycle safety gearl. No other company or manufacturer has dedicated as much effort to reducing injury and saving lives through developing wearable airbag technology in the motorcycle industry.
The Hit-Air lineup of safety apparel is to riding gear today what the helmet was when it was created more than fifty years ago. Then as now, there was an initial resistance and reluctance by some riders to use this important safety gear. Despite the obvious benefit of wearing a helmet, the controversy on whether to wear a helmet or not still persists today.
This controversy undoubtedly will also carry over among some riders with motorcycle safety gear as well. The reason for not wearing helmets or safety apparel is simply a matter of individual priority of choosing between fashion and safety.
One group of people places a higher value and importance on how they look and feel than they do safety. For the other group, safety is a higher priority, even though style and fashion is also important. Mugen Denko recognized that creating a stylish lineup of apparel was almost as important to the overall appeal of the Hit Air motorcycle safety gear as its safety benefits.
